Hello, this is Kim Seul Bi from Seoul team 4, Working Holiday Friends 2nd.

한국에서 워홀러로 1년간 지내신 '무카에 마키'씨를 만나서 인터뷰를 해보았습니다.

I interviewd Mukae Maki, who spent 1 year in Korea as a working holiday maker.

Q1. 먼저 자기소개 부탁드립니다.

First, give us introduction of yourself.

A1. 안녕하세요 저는 일본 후쿠오카에서 온 무카에 마키라고합니다. 잘부탁드립니다.

Hi, I am Mukae Maki from Fukuoka, Japan. Thank you for having me for today’s interview.

Q2. 한국어를 굉장히 잘하시는데 어떻게 공부하였나요?

You are very fluent in Korean. How did you study Korean?

A2. 저는 대학교에서 교양 수업으로 한국어를 공부를 시작하였습니다.

그 후 계속 꾸준히 관심을 갖으며 한국 드라마, 노래등을 보고 들었습니다.

I started learning Korean by attending Korean language class at college. Later then, I kept my interest in Korean with Korean sitcoms, K-pop, etc.

Q3. 지금 한국에 오신지는 얼마나 되셨나요?

How long have you been staying in Korea?

A3. 지금 2년정도 되었습니다. 처음 한국에 온 것은 2010년도로, 워킹홀리데이로 한국에 오게되었습니다.

I’ve been here for approximately 2 years. I first arrived here in 2010 with my working holiday visa.

지금은 취업비자를 받아서1년정도 더 머물고 있습니다.

Now I decided to stay here for another 1 year because I acquired my working visa.

Q4. 한국으로 워홀을 오시게 된 계기가 어떻게 되나요?

What initiated you to come to Korea as a working holiday maker?

A4. 저는 고등학교때 부터 대학교를 졸업하면 한국에서 일본어 선생님이 되고 싶었는데

취업비자를 받는 일이 생각보다 쉽지 않아 워홀을 선택하게 되었습니다.

Ever since when I was a high school student, I have wished to become a Japanese language teacher in Korea. However, getting working visa was not as easy as I expected so I chose to get a working holiday visa.

Q5. 그럼 일본에서 워킹홀리데이라는 제도가 많이 알려져 있나요?

Is Working Holiday Program in Korea well-known to public in Japan?

A5. 네, 제가 왔을 때도 인기가 좀 있었는데 요즘에는 k-pop등 한류 때문에 더 인기가 많아지고 있는 것 같습니다.

Yes. When I arrived in Korea, it was a bit popular in Japan but now due to the rising popularity of K-wave such as ‘k pop’, it is becoming more and more popular.

Q6. 워홀 국가로서 한국은 어떤 좋은 점이 있는지 알려주세요.

What is good about Korea as a working holiday maker?

A6. 아무래도 일본과 가까운 나라니까 비슷한 점도 많고 음식도 맛있고 사람들도 친절합니다. 물가도 일본에 비하면 저렴한 편이고 교통도 매우 잘 발달도 있어서 편합니다.

Korea has many similarities with Japan since it is closely located. Plus, Foods are delicious, people are nice, living cost is not so high compared to Japan and public transportation is very well-organized.

Q7. 조금 아쉬웠던 점은 있나요?

Was there anything you felt depressed about Korea, on the other hand?

A7. 한국에도 외국분들이 많은데, 일자리를 소개시켜주는 시설이 많았으면 좋겠습니다.

There are many foreigners residing in Korea now. I hope there be more institutes helping foreigners to find their jobs in Korea.

Q8. 일본에서 워홀에 관한 정보를 어디서 얻으셨나요?

Where did you get information about Working Holiday in Korea when you were in Japan?

A8. 저는 블로그를 통해서 많은 정보를 얻었습니다.

I got informed much by Blogs.

Q9. 일본 분들이 한국에 오셔서 쉽게 일을 구할 수 있는 방법이 있을까요?

Any tip you can suggest for Japanese people to find their jobs in Korea?

A9. 한국에 일본사람들에게 일자리를 알려주는 사이트를 찾아 보는 것이 가장 좋은 방법인 것 같습니다.

There is a website where you can get job information for Japanese living in Korea. I think it is best to visit that website and search yourself.

Q10. 가장 기억에 남는 에피소드가 있으신가요?

What was the most memorable episode?

A10. 재미있었던 에피소드가 많은데, 그 중에서 한류페스티벌이라는 축제가 있는데, 여의도공원에서 봉사활동으로 1주일간 참여하였습니다. 그곳에서 친구들도 많이 사귀고 좋은 기억에 많이 남았습니다.

I had lots of fun here and most of them were memorable. Among them, to choose one, there was an event named “Korean Wave Festival” held in Yeido park, which I participated as a volunteer worker for 1 week. I made many friends there as well as great memories.

Q11. 남은 기간 동안에 한국에서 이루고 싶은 목표는 무엇인가요?

What is your goal you wish to achieve during the rest of your stay in Korea?

A11. 일본어교사가 되고 싶은 마음이 커서, 지금 처럼 학원에서 경험을 쌓아서 나중에 고등학교에서 교사가 되고 싶습니다.

One of my greatest wish is to become a Japanese language teacher at public school. Like I do now, I will keep teaching at private institutions so that I can make experiences for teaching at high school.
