Starting November 1, 2024, tourists are advised not to visit Bukchon Hanok Village in late hours to prevent disturbance to residents, following the new regulation.
Designated as the “Red Zone,” residence area behind the Jeongdok Library between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace experiences the highest influx of visitors. All tourists, except those with accommodation or shoppers in the area, are restricted from entering from 17:00 to 10:00 next day. After a grace period until February 2025, a fine of a hundred thousand won will be imposed on those violating the regulation, starting in March 2025.
The regulation is introduced to prevent the inconvenience to residents caused by over-tourism such as trespassing, violation of privacy, littering, etc. (* Over-tourism refers to a phenomenon of tourist overcrowding that leads to a negative impact on the local environment and residents’ lives.) Tourists are requested to cooperate and adhere to the regulation to ensure an enjoyable trip for everyone. For further inquiry, please check below.
