Korea successfully flattened the curve without strict lockdowns or overly restricting people`s freedoms. Its COVID-19 control strategy is 3T, “Test-Trace-Treat.” Those at risk of infection are tested, quarantined if necessary, and get treating.
Although there are growing concerns over the privacy implications of the technology-based Coronavirus contract tracing system, the personal data to trace COVID-19 in Korea is collected, anonymized(pseudonymized), limited in duration and scope, and carefully disclosed to the public strictly based on domestic and international law.
Korea has endeavored to strike a balance between public health concerns and personal data protection and to maintain its transparency, openness and democratic values in its fight against COVID-19.
